Is LoneWhisper® a LoRa system?
LoneWhisper® is based on the standard LoRa® waveforms as implemented in LoRa devices and uses the LoRaWAN protocol framing. This means that, from the user’s perspective, the messages received appear as standard LoRaWAN message in a LoRa Network Server. Beyond this, LoneWhisper® includes the management of the satellite gateway settings to optimise performance, and the synchronisation of sending messages only when the satellites are present to minimise energy consumption. LoRa® and LoRaWAN® are just part of the whole LoneWhisper® implementation devised by Lacuna.
What is the size, mass and power required by the satellite gateway?
Our standard high performance gateway fits into a 1U cube (95 x 95 x 99mm), including the built-in deployable antenna, weighs 660grams and requires 8W of power when processing 8 MHz of bandwidth.
What types of satellite could this be flown on?
Typically, the satellite gateway is flown on 3U, 6U or 12U Cubesats, but it also has been flown on much larger platforms. Contact us and we’ll give you the full list of minimum satellite requirements.
